Original message from Blake Lewis:I'm so hyped right now!!! I just done playing the Canal Room in New York and the crowd was so freaking great. Thank you to all who came out. It was truly a great cap to end the last couple of weeks on the road.

What's going on everyone??? Much has happened in the last month and I'm gonna start from now and go back.
What a crazy week leading to today. I'll start with last monday. A.D.D. band rehearsal. This was so nice! This was the first time we have rehearsed in my house. It worked out so great. I was a nice two days with my bros, kickin it, jammin out to You Give Love A Bad Name, getting our 80's rock on for a corporate gig for HP in Vegas on thursday. When rehearsing was done Kent, Jeremy and Nails and I watched the Final NBA game. Johnny was pissed!! I laughed. I didn't care to much. But preferred Boston. Garnet and Allen played for Seattle so I was a little bias.
Now to the phone call. I planned for Wednesday to be my day to rehearse for tonight's Canal Room show, cause we were leaving on Thurs. to play Vegas. Ring, ring, ring went the phone. Iain my manager baring the news. Arista isn't picking up the second option. Meaning, I'm not doin another record with them. I'm totally fine with this... I was just wishing they would have put the word out to me over the last couple months, because lets face it..... Waiting SUCKS!!!! I could have known this 2 months ago, when all of RCA was going through there changes. Oh well. I guess the right time was now. No biggy. I'm still with 19 Recordings and I got a tour and new record on the way. Now I'll I need is a home for my music. Some place warm and tropical.... seriously though... Got to be a place where they actually respect my craft and electronic music. Getting RCA to do remixes for my record was like pulling teeth AND I had friends do the mixes for next to nothing. They turned out great and are rising on the Billboard charts. How Many Words is in the top 40. HOLY SHIT!!!! its currently 29. So freaking pumped. People been shakin there booties to some electro Brake.. hehe Thanks to all the DJs playing my song. Lovin you right now! Wednesday ended with me rehearsing for a couple hours, just fine tuning some of my pedals and playing the piano.
And the clock strikes Thursday. VEGAS BABY!!!! Needless to say, we were all pretty stoked to be here for one night. This was Kents first experience of Vegas, so we had to go all out. We stayed at The Venetian and played in the ballroom. Ended up getting a couple friends to come out. Super nice of them to come out from Cali. Show-time was great. Really nice system and everything went off great. I did a little beat box HP commercial pitching to them the idea for one. Really fun! The night progressed, we watched Stephen Marely, went to Tao and had the best freaking meal I've had in a long time. They brought out 10 apps and I thought they were entrées... Then they brought those out. We ate like we hadn't for ten years. Perfect! The boys went home and Johnny and proceeded to Albany, NY for a radio show. It was great. Met up with my friends Metro Station and Ace Young. My friend Blake from Metro actually played a couple keyboard lines on How Many Words. Super great band. It was nice to finally catch up with Ace and hang. His single is coming out soon and I really like it. Much respect. So we played this radio show and Coolio was there. Gangsta Paradise himself. This story I have to tell. My tour manager, Ace and I are chillin in my room and BOOM!! The fire alarm goes off. This goes on for a good half hour and then BANG, BANG, BANG! Knocks on the door. Its Coolio's nephew/producer Ghost. Super chill/nice guy and Ace, He and I start rappin bout life and Cool. then ten minutes later there's another knock at the door. "Fire Department"... open the door and who else could it be... Coolio. I'm laughing. That was funny enough for me. Coolio at my door and he probably started the fire alarm and ran to my room for cover. Perfect way to end a great day. Johnny and I head to Connecticut the next day for a show. My friend came down from Boston and we kicked it. This show was much for lax, cause it was super bad weather. We had a good time and went out for some dinner. After all that, Johnny and I ended up working on a song I had written a year ago, that I wanted to change. By the end of the night we had an Epic song of Beattle proportion.. This one is going on the record KJ and I are producing. I'm really excited now. We have three songs underway and they are sounding killer. I'm giving this track the title Save Us for now. Johnny and I are going to start working on the pre production in the weeks to come. Super STOKED!!! Well things are pretty positive for me right now and I owe that allot to you guys. Thanks for all the amazing comments and messages everyday. I truly do appreciate all that you do. I think thats about it for now. I got a couple shows in the works. oh.. I almost forgot. Darude and I just finished a track called " Selfless" for a charity called Dance 4 Life. Its and AIDS foundation and I couldn't be more happy with the way the song came out. It should be hitting the net soon. Love, Peace and Beats!

Good day, evening, night, noon thirty, and any other moment in time at which you are reading this message. Was that a mouthful or what? Whaaaaaaaaaattttttttttssss Happnin?? Alright... I know I've been gone for a minute and have been a hypocrite at tellin you all I would message more. I apologize. I have actually been In a weird Funk for a month or two and have finally gotten out of it. Booya. So much dark and light. Balance is the theme of my life right now. Taking time to reflect, while staying absolutely busy has been crazy, but is the reason I am at one. Lets recap: Last blog I was headed to Miami. I posted some pics since then. Two words. Freaking Brilliant!!! Kevin and I travels down to meet BT and some friends, opened the Winter Music Conference (WMC), play at Ultra with BT (got to sing Never Gonna Come Back Down, hang with my friends DJ Dan and Donald Glaude while watching them play a smoking set at Crobar and do all of BTs Vocal effects/processing) and ended up playing the most glitched out improv/freestyle set with Edit, Richard Devine and BT. What a week. After that week, I traveled to Albany to play A cappella Innovations, an a cappella conference, all about communicating through the voice. I've played many of these shows back in the day, so it was really nice going to play a solo show buy myself for an hour. It was really nice to just let go and release. Ended up playing the next night with a couple fellow beat boxers/vocal percussionists. Beautiful Light!! Then Darkness. So I had been doin the whole radio promo tours and let me tell ya. I've never really been a fan of the radio, but always wanted to be a radio DJ. "Strange?" You say. Trying to get them to play my jam has been so grueling. Don't get me wrong, I loved being apart of American Idol and all, but if I have to talk to one more DJ that doesn't really care about my music and wants to know what Simon Cowell or Sanjaya is like, I'm gonna poo my pants. What happened to DJs playing music that provokes emotion? or even music they like. I've talked to most of them and they just do what the next do. There is hope I feel. Still some magic is running through the air. A couple amazing singer/songwriters and producers are fighting there way through the waves, hoping to see the shore…, as am I. Soooo..... The light at the end of the tunnel is still just a glimmer, but the outlook is filled with illumination. This just in: I just got back from BTs and we put the UNK in Funk this week on a new track for his new record. If you want to find out more about the track... look up (Strange Attraction at a distance) google that ish. http://www.physicspost.com/articles.php?articleId=213 Einstein at his finest. On to the now. Currently, presently, and at the moment I'm in New York doin press with my new publicist (Big Machine Media), who's kickin ass and taking names. Boom! In a few days I will return to my Seattle estate and start working on a new project, that shall be remained un-named, with The roommate, The Drummer, The Twister of Knobs, Mr. KJ Sawka(Kevin). Much music to be made. Its Here: HOW MANY WORDS – Remixed I'm so excited I can't take it. My friends DJ Dan and Dave Aude have remixed How Many Words and They are freakin Insane!!! Right now on Itunes the remixes are waiting for you to download. It's really cool for me to hear different interpretations of my song, especially from my friends that know my music and me. Jake Benson did a really nice trance mix as well. They are all killer. Please check them out and get those Little/Big booties rockin out. Whats next: This is where it gets sticky. As of now, my record label (RCA Music Group) is undergoing changes. To put it lightly, This has been to focal point of Bshortys frustration. Clive Davis has been demoted and Barry Weis has stepped in. Leaving many things up in the air, Audio Day Dream, being one of those. I'm currently waiting for a response and a swift plan of action. Fingers crossed, I'm hoping for the album to be out in Europe, a Tour being planned and the possibility of a new single. Show me the LIGHT, so I won't be left in the dark. All I need is a flashlight and I'll do the rest. Shib?.... Shib! I would like to thank all of you that has kept supporting me and my efforts to bring positive, creative music to life. It is you that keeps me alive. On that note. The BLarmy has formed. If you are interested in helping me spread the word. The wonderful people at Idolbored.com have started The BLarmy. Please join forces to help promote this record by checking out Idolbored. And with that, I leave you with this… It is the balance of life that keeps us human. Sorry this Blog is so A.D.D. its just one of those days. Love, Peace and Beats! - Blake
In my rather obvious and feeble attempt to get the release of the video to "How Many Words" by Blake Lewis sped up the other day, I somehow managed to get him to answer a few interview questions instead - and his responses are rather informative! In this exclusive interview with EQ, Blake Lewis talks about the origin of his new single, who he is big upping for this season of American Idol and what it was like to work with some of the legendary names on his uber fantastic debut album "Audio Day Dream". Enjoy EQs! EQ: Hey Blake, thanks for chatting with us. So tell us what's been the reaction so far industry-wise from "Audio Daydream"? Blake Lewis: The reaction has been great so far. I have been blessed with amazing fans that respect my art. It has been interesting coming off such a phenomenon of a television show like American Idol and trying to break out in the world of radio. We loved your performance of "How Many Words" recently on the new season of American Idol. Was this song a standout track for you on the album? What is the inspiration behind the tune? This was my pick for a single the day I got a rough mix back. I was trying terribly hard to make this my first single and I couldn't’t be happier that it’s finally out there now. "How Many Words" is about my last girlfriend I had before American Idol. In the chorus it says, "This loves black and blue". "Black" is for Blake and "Blue" is her last name. She is a beautiful, talented woman that I kept breaking up with and getting back together repeatedly over the course of two years. It came down to me not liking the man I was becoming when I was with her and her lack of support in my music career made me let her go. Thus, "How Many Words" was born. And you know I am dying to know – how’s the video coming along?! I have received many treatments for the video and wrote one myself. Just waiting for the label to give the go ahead and trying to find the right person to see my vision through. Do you think you would have pursued a career in music if the springboard of American Idol didn't exist? Would it be easier or harder to break into the American public eye without it? I have been singing professionally for the last eight years doing underground music (A Cappella/Electronica). I have been pursuing my music very hard ever since the moment I stepped out on a real stage at my first gig. I auditioned for American Idol on a whim and ended up coming in second place. What a shock! I had never watched this program in my life and had no idea it would take me into the world of celebrity and jump-start my career into mainstream radio. It was definitely hard for my art to be recognized and break into the public eye in Seattle and everywhere else, so American Idol has been an amazing experience and has allowed my art to be seen to a broader audience. What’s been the hardest part of becoming famous so instantly? Was it something you had to prepare for or did it come quite easily for you this whole pop star thing? It was really interesting for me because I’m not a real big fan of American television and don’t believe in Idolatry. I think I have it easy, because I don’t view myself as a celebrity. The only thing that has really changed is the environment I’m in. People recognize me now when I come into a room and have been respectful. Any plans for international promotion at the moment? I think you would do quite well in the UK, Europe and Asia given that "Audio Daydream" is really a strong musical debut. I hope to badly get my record out there as soon as possible! I would love to throw on two new tracks as well! Fingers crossed! So honestly, what was your first reaction to that infamous photoshopped photo of you and Chris Richardson looking comfy in the chair? Ghastly or hilarious? Ghastly and hilarious, I laughed out loud. People are funny. Do you mind it when people compare you to Justin Timberlake? I’ve been getting the comparison for years now. I take it for what it is. It’s a compliment I think. I was more a fan of N’sync as a whole than solo Justin. I do think he is an amazing performer. Getting back to “Audio Daydream” – what are your favourite tracks from the album? I quite love "End Of The World". When getting your first record out there, they become all your favorites. They are like my kids. I did a lot of work on "What’cha Got 2 Lose" I co-produced it with J.R. Rotem and wrote it with Chris Richardson. "End Of The World" as far as my vocal arrangement and "1000 Miles" for the sentiment are also two of my favorites. "Shes Makin’ Me Lose it", was a dream come true to work with BT and he is one of the reasons I communicate through music today. Look out for a tour soon. See?? They are all my favorites. What made you go back and pay tribute to "Puttin On The Ritz" in "Gots To Get Her"? I have to say, that worked quite well… I’m glad you like it! This came together with Ryan Tedder of One Republic, Steph Jones and myself… With the help of Clive getting the rights to use the melody, It was conceived. I’m very honored to be the first person ever to change the lyrics to this classic. I’ve been singing jazz for a long time now and thought this would be a great piece for the album. How did you come up with the great cover art concept for the CD? I was on the internet looking up digital art and came across and inspiring piece, very 80’s with neon lighting, with two faces. It was my desktop screensaver on my computer all through my American Idol tour. I’m very influenced by 80’s pop culture and music. I have been working in Photoshop for a while now and have gotten around pretty good, so I worked up some concepts and found Courtney James, a really talented digital artist and asked her if she would oversee this project. The concept is that music transcends time (Music Is Timeless). I wanted the music and the artwork to take people on a journey. I oversaw every inch of the design, picked every picture, drew the poster that folds out and wanted it to look like a vinyl record because of my appreciation of phonographs. It was really great to see a vision come alive so beautifully. I fought hard to have my picture not facing the viewer. Hence "Daydream", me looking up to the sky. What was it like to work with Lupe Fiasco on "Know My Name"? This was the first song I completed on the record and it was just missing something. I was into Lupe the minute he stepped onto the scene. He’s so conscience while holding down a mainstreams appeal. I asked my label if they would be down with having an emcee and they were really for it. It ended up being the last track to be finished and Lupe’s 16 bars bring a whole new level to the track. So dope! What’s it like to work with the legend that is Clive Davis? I’m so honored to be working with such a legend. My life has happened for a reason and this was just icing on the cake. The only person I had ever dreamed of being signed by was Clive. It’s been great. I’m really open and honest and we have maintained great communication, which is tough in his world, because a lot of people walk around on eggshells when in his presence. I just can’t do that. Who are you dying to collaborate with now, being that you’ve got your first album under your belt already? I could name a thousand. Black Thought and Doug E Fresh were gonna be on the album, but time ran out. I would love to work with Prince, Sting, Edit, Adam Levine, Jay Kay, Robin Thicke. The list goes on... Do you read the pop blogs and fansites dedicated to you? What do you think of them? If it wasn’t for some other music blogs singing your praises from America – I don’t think I would have heard about you so early on here in England. I really appreciate all of my fans that have gone on there and have taken the time to share their interest in my music. It really means a lot to me. I have, however only gone on one twice. I really can’t read about myself or check out YouTube or anything like that. I stay in touch with my fans by running my MySpace page. That in its self is a lot of work. But I still won’t let anyone touch it but me! What’s the craziest thing you’ve read about yourself online? That I got a noise complaint and that the cops came to my house. It's was really surreal and funny at the same time! Have you been watching American Idol this year? Who are you rooting for? Personally I want Jason Castro to win, but I don’t know if that will happen or not… I really liked Chikeze and David Cook. So now its down to him. I’m a little bias. I want a guy to take it home this year. David Cook sang an arrangement of "Eleanor Rigby", by Doxology. They are real good friends of mine out of Seattle, so he’s doing great in my mind. Any artists out there that you are loving at the moment? Any artists you want to give props to? So many!!! Edit (Certified Air Raid Material) such a brilliant record. Zack Hexum (Open To Close), Mute Math, Shiny Toy Guns (We Are Pilots) and The Black Keys. When you want to get crazy and let loose, where can we catch you on a Saturday night? I’m usually rockin out at a friends show or keeping it mellow playing Halo with some friends. It all depends on where I’m at, at the time, whether it be Seattle or on the road. That’s it Blake – thanks again for chatting with us. We are really looking forward to seeing more of you in Europe this year. Any parting words for our EQ readers? Thank you to everyone that has supported me through this last year. It’s because of you I communicate myself through the art of noise. Love and Happiness to all!

Enough about Blake (for a while). Let me get into the HOTTEST topic of American Idol 7! The biggest question is:
Is it gonna be David VS. David?

Forget David vs. Goliath. The battle of the century is David vs. David, and the arena is the glittering stage of TV's No. 1 hit, "American Idol." In one corner is Utah's own David Archuleta, a sweet, humble, baby-faced crooner full of hope and dreams. Sweating it out in the other is Missouri's David Cook, whose haunting arrangements and too-cool-for-school air has made him a popular counterpoint to Archuleta's optimism and pre-teen appeal.
It's become The Chosen One vs. The Edgy One every Tuesday night. Here's our analysis of how the Davids stack up, from singing styles to fashion design. David Archulta Hometown: Murray Favorite quote: "You'll never be lonely if you learn to befriend yourself." -- Anonymous Musical influences: Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Bryan Adams
David Cook Age: 25 Hometown: Blue Springs, Mo. Favorite quote: "Pain don't hurt." - Patrick Swayze (from "Roadhouse") Musical influences: Our Lady Peace, Big Wreck.
On-stage style
Archuleta: He loves music that's good for the soul.
He performed John Lennon's "Imagine" one week but dared not sing the verse that declares "And no religion too." David isn't much of a mover and shaker on stage. Most of his song choices have been soulful - too soft to get us off our feet and dancing. Cook: He's a theatrical rocker who clutches the microphone like he's embracing his lover. And he loves to give off the vibe that he's tormented by just eating a bowl of corn flakes. He turned "Billie Jean" into an emotional ballad that nearly shook the Pillars of Heaven. Sex Appeal Archuleta: Every pre-teen girl wants a picture of him on their beach towel. Just cast him in the lead of "High School Musical 4" right now and put him on the Miley Cyrus Path to Success. Cook: The kind of guy who would woo girls by telling them how his heart is broken. We think of the emo-angst of Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz, which means Cook likely deserves someone like Ashlee Simpson. Fashion Archuleta: He's so wholesome, the most he can get away with is a beige jacket over a graphic T-shirt. He wore leather-look pants last week, and half the nation had a cardiac. Cook: Boring. Somebody should tell him that when it comes to looking like a rocker, he needs to take it up a notch to surpass 2006's Rocker-of-the-Season, Chris Daughtry. Playing an instrument
David Archuleta: David is a piano player all the way, which makes him perfect for power ballads, school recitals and church meetings. David Cook: Cook plays the guitar and you know he's just dying to smash it on stage or on an amplifier. Plus he knows chicks dig him when he shreds those chords. Who would win in a brawl? Cook, of course. He could pummel pint-sized Archuleta into sweet, loveable mince meat. But Utah's idol would forgive Cook instantly, making him the better man. I hate to be one-sided here, but YEAH YOU GET THE POINT.
I DAVID COOK! Who's with me!?!?
This is a response to those speculations that he hates Sanjaya AND that he thinks David Archuleta is boring. Some things he said were mean, but he's just being Simon Cowell-ish. That's our boy.
-oOo-
Yooooooo…… This is Blake. I usually never got on these things, but want to clear up some things for you all. first. Sanjaya…. I have nothing against this boy, but on the show I was frustrated at his progression. After being on Tour and finding out hes actually a pretty cool kid changed my opinion. Would I have put him on the show, maybe not. Still love the lil dude. David, David A. and MR. Eze… Now that I have seen all the new season… as of this week. new light has shined. I found out that David Cook did my Boys Doxologys version of Eleanor Rigby and was stoked, but then he gave them no props. Later to find out he did, but the cut it off the show. He and Eze E and my favorites thus far. Just my Alumni Opinion. Kind of rooting for a dude to win it this year. Although Brooke and Carly are holding it down. David A. is as well, when I called him boring it was just out of the fact that I want this kid to do well. He needs to get out of his box. He clearly has mass talent and a killer voice. I just want to see him out of his comfort zone and to get away from his dad for a minute. His dad is nice, I can just see the pressure. Thats all. I’m not a hater. I’m a huge fan of this year. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Its just really SURREAL watching a show you have never seen, that you were on. if anyone of you at anytime want to contact me. I run my myspace and try and check it everyday. http://www.myspace.com/BlakeLewis I hope you are all well. Love and happiness - Blake Lewis
On April 22, the Official Blake Lewis Fan Site (Philippines) will have its first anniversary.
I can't really think of anything to make it extra special, but I'll tell you what -- I sent a message to Kristi and asked her if she could ask a message from Blake to all of us. Or if not, maybe she could give us a message.
I wasn't really planning on telling you guys about this yet, I wanted to surprise you if ever we get a line or two from Blake. But I'm afraid it'd be too far-fetched because they're all busy -- and I am too busy I'm afraid I can't keep up on asking Kristi again and again and again. LOL. If only I could contact Blake DIRECTLY. Ugh.
But hey, look on the bright side -- on the 22nd, well make it through 525, 600 minutes! YAY! Thank you, thank you and thank you for simply just being there, for joining the group, for posting stuff, for reading the blogs and reviews, for viewing the photos, for watching the videos, for downloading the songs... and most of all, for being a real Blaker.
Happy 1st anniversary!

by Sherrill Fulghum . With the high ratings, millions of fans, and all the fervor over FOX Network's "American Idol" it's hard to believe that there is anyone who hasn't seen the show; especially a contestant. But that is the case for the Season 6 runner up Blake Lewis. Before auditioning for the show Lewis admits to having never seen the show. This Redmond, Washington native has been singing since the age of five. His first instrument was a saxophone. Later came the piano and guitar. Lewis said that he has always been attracted to noise; so it stand's to reason that he would get into music. Lewis said that he loved Robin Williams in "Mork and Mindy" because of all the sounds Williams made. Blake Lewis has followed somewhat in Williams footsteps with his own sound – known as beatbox. Lewis became American Idol's first beatbox contestant. Season 6 contestants have seen their albums being released with little or no fan fare. Many Arista artists have seen their albums released with no help from the record company as of late and Blake Lewis is no exception. His album was released in early December with no notice. Lewis' debut album is titled "Audio Day Dream"; he calls it ADD for short. The album was four years in the making and like the disorder the letter stand for – Attention Deficit Disorder – the album has frequent changes and doesn't stay in one place for very long. But for music this is a good thing. Listeners will not get tired or bored of the album and will be awaiting to see what comes next. However; the album is well thought out and constructed. Lewis demonstrates his versatility. Along with his beatbox sounds are well crafted songs with catchy tunes and intelligent lyrics. Maroon 5 fans will want to hear what Blake Lewis has to offer. "Audio Day Dream" contains 16 songs of pop, hip hop, and dance tunes that will have you dancing and even singing along. Included in the album of original music is a ballad or two American Idol did not do justice to Blake Lewis but his album does and shows off the real Blake Lewis. CD Info and Links

Original message from Kristi Redman:
last night’s concert was amazing!!! Haha as I’m writing this I just got a call from blake to go to lunch.
When I first got to the venue there was an enormous line around the block. I had to get in the back of the line. Boo! Haha apparently I think I deserve to be in the front of the line. When we finally got in there was a big crowd around a table and I could barely make out spiky blond hair. Blake was signing autographs. After he finished I was able to see him for a second as he was heading up the stairs to the bar where it was less crowded. He grabbed my hand and pulled me up for a hug. There were a lot of people taking pictures and probably wondering who the tall girl was! Haha then I was pointing out my friend to blake in the crowd and waving at her. People probably were under the impression that I thought I was the first lady or something and was waving at the crowd. Embarrassing!! I realized that no one knew I was waving at my friend, so I stopped. Lol!
anyway, doxology and the mob law were awesome. Such high energy and wonderful performances. Then at 11pm blake finally got on the stage! It was so great! The crowd went crazy and everyone was screaming. In the short time since I saw them perform at Jingle Bell Bash they’ve gotten even better. It was very cool to see everyone singing along to his songs . part of the way through the song Kevin (blake’s drummer and lookalike!) said, “are there any Blaker Girls out there??” and everyone started screaming. Blake said, “and Blakers!” he didn’t want the guys feeling left out! Lol. Then Blake said he wanted to say hi to his best friend Kristi who started the Blaker Girls. Awww! My friend, Noreen, was with me and she started pointing at me and screaming, “THIS IS KRISTI!!!!”. It was really funny and then everyone was staring at me. Awkward. Hahah
I can’t say enough about the show; it was so fun! I’ll post pics and vids later today. Afterwards, I got to see blake for a few minutes after he came out to sign more autographs. I can’t tell you how weird it is to wait in line to see your friend. Bizarre! I have no idea what I’m typing right now because I’m so tired! I went to bed at 3am. Hopefully this rambling makes sense. Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and support blake!! Much love to Doxology, The Mob Law, Kevin, Johnny Nails, Jeremy, and Kent!!! Oh yeah, and blake!!!
Love you all! kristi

Scarface, Wyclef Jean, DJ Drama among week's highest-charting new releases. The album's robust sales are proof positive of Oprah's influence — and, of course, the season, as sales of Christmas releases increased across the board. Still, it's nonetheless impressive that in the nine weeks since its release, the LP has held the #1 spot the last three. Next week's chart shows that the album's week-three triumph was hardly threatened; the record sold another 581,500 copies, and the closest competitor, Alicia Keys' As I Am, finished at #2, selling 234,400 units. But perhaps the bigger story is how "American Idol" season-six runner-up Blake Lewis' debut, Audio Day Dream, fared on the top 200. Entering the chart at #10 with just 97,500 copies scanned, Lewis' disc was the sole chart newcomer to bow in the top 10, but the album generated fewer sales than "Idol" victor Jordin Sparks' self-titled debut did. Sparks' album turned out the lowest first-week numbers for any debut from one of the show's champs, and this week, it sits at #24 with sales reported at 52,500, just three weeks after first landing in stores. It, too, entered at #10 the week after its release, with little more than 119,100 sold. The remainder of the top 10 is filled out with some of the biggest-selling albums of the year, enjoying a holiday sales boost. Behind Keys at #3 is the Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden with 204,500 scans, and coming in at #4 with 158,400 sold is the 26th addition to the Now That's What I Call Music! compilation series. The soundtrack to "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus" climbs two spots to #5, selling 132,200, while the soundtrack to "High School Musical 2" follows at #6 with 128,000 sold. Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride rises two positions to #7, having sold 106,800 copies. Garth Brooks' Ultimate Hits follows at #8 with 105,000 scans, and coming in at #9 with 98,800 copies scanned is country crossover Taylor Swift's self-titled debut. Generally speaking, album sales were up last week, thanks to the holiday shopping season, and the announcement last week of this year's Grammy contenders. For example, sales of Kanye West's Graduation, which garnered the most nominations, were up 7 percent to close at 25,100; the album surged ahead 10 spots to #58. Meanwhile, sales of Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, which was nominated for six awards, rose 48 percent to end at 17,600-plus, according to the latest SoundScan totals. One of the week's biggest gainers was Mexican band K-Paz de la Sierra's Capaz de Todo por Ti, which experienced a sales increase of 309 percent, following the death of lead singer Sergio Gomez 10 days ago. (He was kidnapped and later found dead, one of three popular traditional Mexican musicians to be murdered last week.) The album, which wasn't on the chart last week, appeared at #93, selling 15,300 copies — up from 3,700 the previous week. Just 13 new releases managed to find their way onto next week's top 200, including Lewis' inaugural studio offering. Rapper Scarface's M.A.D.E. enters the chart at #17 with 62,900 scans, while DJ Drama's first aboveground mixtape, Gangsta Grillz: The Album, which features tracks by T.I., Young Jeezy, Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, Yung Joc, Jadakiss, Jim Jones and others, comes in at #26 with 48,800 sold. Carnival, Vol. 2: Memoirs of an Immigrant, the latest from ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean, opens at #28, having sold 46,400 copies its first week in stores. That's the lowest chart position and weakest sales of any of 'Clef's previous outings. Back in 1997, The Carnival debuted at #16 with 52,000 sold, while 2000's The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book opened at #9 with 95,400 scans; 2002's Masquerade entered the chart at #6 with 81,500, and 2003's The Preacher's Son bowed at #22 with 49,300 sold. Godsmack's career-spanning Good Times, Bad Times: 10 Years of Godsmack collection sold 40,500 copies to enter the chart at #35, while Wu-Tang Clan associate Ghostface Killah's The Big Doe Rehab follows at #41 with 35,600 sold. Styles P's new one, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), comes in at #52 with sales of 28,500. Late rapper 2Pac has not one, but two posthumous releases making their debuts on next week's chart. The Best of 2Pac, Pt. 1: Thug sits in the #65 spot with 22,500 sold, while The Best of 2Pac, Pt. 2: Life follows at #77 with 18,900 copies snatched up. Meanwhile, Too Short's Get Off the Stage enters at #160 with sales reported at 8,000, and Rufus Wainwright's Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall comes in at #171 with 7,400 sold. Lastly, debuting at #196 with 6,300 sold, it's Crunk Hits: Volume 4, a compilation featuring the likes of T.I., Shop Boyz, Fat Joe, Chris Brown, Chamillionaire and Jim Jones.
I just want to show you my reply to one of my contacts' blogs... she's a BIG Melinda Doolittle fan, and she wrote a blog about why Melinda got booted off the competition and not Blake.
Here's the reply I worte to defend our boy:
I'll tell you what... people are "criticizing" Blake because of their insecurity. Of what? Well yes - ORIGINALITY. He has the "it" factor. He's a breath of fresh air... face it, we can't stick to typical and boring divas who don't know how to rock it up a bit and how to bring the house down. Since Blake Lewis stepped into the Seattle audition area, he has proven that he has such good talent to show to America. He might not be the best singer, but he's a great performer and a great entertainer. He's got the package. America needs an entertainer... you don't wanna bring them into a deep sleep, do you?
There has been some talk about how blake shouldn't be in the final 2 because he doesn't have the 'strongest' voice or that melinda shouldn't have been voted off because her voice is better than blake's. i think that blake has proven time and time again that he is a competitor to be reckoned with. i know that the judges continually say that this is a 'singing' competition and i think that is valid. HOWEVER, i think that someone needs to have the whole package in order to be successful after the show is over.
i don't think it's fair to say that blake is still there because this is a 'popularity contest'. i know for a fact that the majority of his fans vote for him because of his talent. because he's a true artist. i don't know about you, but i sure wouldn't vote for 2 hours a week JUST because i thought someone was cute. that novelty wears off after a while. blake fans vote because of his TALENT.
it's important to remember that being the most talented singer ever doesn't mean anything if you don't have other things backing it up. think about some of the most successful singers out there. they don't necessarily have the BEST voices, but what they do have is good voices, personality, talent, business savvy, marketability, etc. look at performers like madonna, britney spears, etc. definitely not the best voices, but they have the IT factor.
Sorry for a long reply. Whatever happens, if Jordin wins, it's okay cos she deserves it. Jordin is such a talented young lady too. But Blake will always be my American Idol.
