Scarface, Wyclef Jean, DJ Drama among week's highest-charting new releases.

The album's robust sales are proof positive of Oprah's influence — and, of course, the season, as sales of Christmas releases increased across the board. Still, it's nonetheless impressive that in the nine weeks since its release, the LP has held the #1 spot the last three. Next week's chart shows that the album's week-three triumph was hardly threatened; the record sold another 581,500 copies, and the closest competitor, Alicia Keys' As I Am, finished at #2, selling 234,400 units.

But perhaps the bigger story is how "American Idol" season-six runner-up Blake Lewis' debut, Audio Day Dream, fared on the top 200. Entering the chart at #10 with just 97,500 copies scanned, Lewis' disc was the sole chart newcomer to bow in the top 10, but the album generated fewer sales than "Idol" victor Jordin Sparks' self-titled debut did. Sparks' album turned out the lowest first-week numbers for any debut from one of the show's champs, and this week, it sits at #24 with sales reported at 52,500, just three weeks after first landing in stores. It, too, entered at #10 the week after its release, with little more than 119,100 sold.

The remainder of the top 10 is filled out with some of the biggest-selling albums of the year, enjoying a holiday sales boost. Behind Keys at #3 is the Eagles' Long Road Out of Eden with 204,500 scans, and coming in at #4 with 158,400 sold is the 26th addition to the Now That's What I Call Music! compilation series. The soundtrack to "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus" climbs two spots to #5, selling 132,200, while the soundtrack to "High School Musical 2" follows at #6 with 128,000 sold.

Carrie Underwood's Carnival Ride rises two positions to #7, having sold 106,800 copies. Garth Brooks' Ultimate Hits follows at #8 with 105,000 scans, and coming in at #9 with 98,800 copies scanned is country crossover Taylor Swift's self-titled debut.

Generally speaking, album sales were up last week, thanks to the holiday shopping season, and the announcement last week of this year's Grammy contenders. For example, sales of Kanye West's Graduation, which garnered the most nominations, were up 7 percent to close at 25,100; the album surged ahead 10 spots to #58. Meanwhile, sales of Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, which was nominated for six awards, rose 48 percent to end at 17,600-plus, according to the latest SoundScan totals.

One of the week's biggest gainers was Mexican band K-Paz de la Sierra's Capaz de Todo por Ti, which experienced a sales increase of 309 percent, following the death of lead singer Sergio Gomez 10 days ago. (He was kidnapped and later found dead, one of three popular traditional Mexican musicians to be murdered last week.) The album, which wasn't on the chart last week, appeared at #93, selling 15,300 copies — up from 3,700 the previous week.

Just 13 new releases managed to find their way onto next week's top 200, including Lewis' inaugural studio offering. Rapper Scarface's M.A.D.E. enters the chart at #17 with 62,900 scans, while DJ Drama's first aboveground mixtape, Gangsta Grillz: The Album, which features tracks by T.I., Young Jeezy, Lil Jon, Lil Wayne, Yung Joc, Jadakiss, Jim Jones and others, comes in at #26 with 48,800 sold.

Carnival, Vol. 2: Memoirs of an Immigrant, the latest from ex-Fugee Wyclef Jean, opens at #28, having sold 46,400 copies its first week in stores. That's the lowest chart position and weakest sales of any of 'Clef's previous outings. Back in 1997, The Carnival debuted at #16 with 52,000 sold, while 2000's The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book opened at #9 with 95,400 scans; 2002's Masquerade entered the chart at #6 with 81,500, and 2003's The Preacher's Son bowed at #22 with 49,300 sold.

Godsmack's career-spanning Good Times, Bad Times: 10 Years of Godsmack collection sold 40,500 copies to enter the chart at #35, while Wu-Tang Clan associate Ghostface Killah's The Big Doe Rehab follows at #41 with 35,600 sold. Styles P's new one, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), comes in at #52 with sales of 28,500.

Late rapper 2Pac has not one, but two posthumous releases making their debuts on next week's chart. The Best of 2Pac, Pt. 1: Thug sits in the #65 spot with 22,500 sold, while The Best of 2Pac, Pt. 2: Life follows at #77 with 18,900 copies snatched up. Meanwhile, Too Short's Get Off the Stage enters at #160 with sales reported at 8,000, and Rufus Wainwright's Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall comes in at #171 with 7,400 sold. Lastly, debuting at #196 with 6,300 sold, it's Crunk Hits: Volume 4, a compilation featuring the likes of T.I., Shop Boyz, Fat Joe, Chris Brown, Chamillionaire and Jim Jones.

'Tattoo' fades a little; Idols slide on download chart

The unstoppable onslaught of Christmas music contributed to an Idol slump on the digital songs chart from Nielsen SoundScan. It was a slow week for downloads overall (off 9%), but five of the six Idol tracks on the chart were down, and three tracks that charted last week disappeared this week.

Jordin's Tattoo actually salvaged a chart improvement, inching up from No. 8 to No. 7. But it was down by 11% in sales, selling 69,000 downloads for a total of 441,000. Her No Air was the only Idol track to improve, even if it was a modest jump of 3% to 7,000 for a total of 14,000. It rose 172-166 on the chart.

Daughtry's Over You fell 23-33 on the chart, aided by a 31% sales slide to 23,000. Its total is 549,000. His Home, which had a big jump to No. 56 last week, fell to 112 this week, with a 45% sales drop to just under 10,000. Total is 1.15 million.

Carrie's So Small also took a hit, dropping 35% to 15,000 for a total of 388,000, and accounting for a 40-64 chart skid. Before He Cheats fell similarly, down 32% to about 9,000 for a total of 1.94 million. It slid 81-118 on the chart.

Falling off the chart were Daughtry's It's Not Over, Elliott's Wait for You, and, ominously, Blake's Break Anotha (after just two weeks).

* Hopefully the album, will sell well.

Blog EntryJordin slides; Elliott gets a holiday giftDec 6, '07 7:23 PM
by Mr for everyone
How will Blake's album fare on the chart..? We'll have to wait for another week to find out.. please buy the original album to help boost his album sales..

Jordin slides; Elliott gets a holiday gift

Jordin's self-titled album dropped 57% in its second week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and falls from No. 10 to No. 18 on the Billboard chart. Given that holiday season tends to soften a lot of second-week sales declines, and that Jordin didn't sell all that much in her first week, this is not tremendously encouraging news. She sold 52,000 and her two-week total is 171,000.

Carrie remains top Idol on the chart, but drops 7-9 after selling 89,000, a 37% skid from the previous week. Her total is 1.16 million

Daughtry drops 33-37, falling 24% in sales to 33,000 for a total of 3.37 million.

Carrie's Some Hearts climbs 68-62 despite sliding 11% in sales to 18,000. (It was a slow week overall.) Her total is 6.06 million.

Elliott's contribution to Target's Sounds of the Season series jumps 170-79, selling 13,000, up about 83% for a total of 23,000.

And, continuing her on-and-off relationship with the chart, Kellie returns at No. 187, selling 5,300 (down 100 or so, but it was a lot easier to get on the chart this week) for a total of 665,000.

Off-the-chart Idols follow.

Ran through these faster than usual by necessity, so minor inconsistencies may crop up. But anyway...

The top-selling non-charting Idol album for the week was Clay's Christmas album, which accounted for 7,000 sales, up from 5,000 the previous week. SoundScan total is 1.3 million. Clay's A Thousand Different Ways sold 300, same as last week, and is at 520,000.

Elliott's secular album (I used to know a guy named Elliott Sekuler, apropos of absolutely nothing) sold about 5,000, same as last week, and hit the 450,000 mark.

Kelly's My December sold around 5,000, same as last week, for a total of 708,000. Breakaway sold 4,000, down precipitously from 10,000, and is a whisker shy of 5.90 million.

Bucky sold around 2,000, down from 2,600, and can now celebrate a 300,000 total.

Bo also sold 2,000, down from 2,400, and has reached 25,000 total.

Fantasia sold 1,300, down from 1,500, and is at 495,000.

Mandisa sold 900, down from 1,000, and has totaled about 59,000. Her Christmas EP sold 400, same as last week, for a total of 1,200.

Katharine is up to 600 sold from 500, totaling out at 361,000.

Taylor doubles his sales to 400, with a total of 697,000.

Kimberley's Christmas album sold 400, same as last week, for a total of 1,200. Her previous album sold 100, same as last week, and is sitting at 17,000.

Constantine sold 200, down from 300, for a total of 22,000.

Ruben and Paris each sold 100, same as last week. Ruben's total is 235,000; Paris' is 20,000.

Blog EntryJordin Says...Oct 2, '07 9:20 AM
by Pink for everyone
It's two o'clock in the morning, I'm on myspace, watching a random show I've never seen on Spike TV, and listening to some newly acquired music. I guess I'm just in the writing mood. I'll try to explain myself a little bit...so here goes.

My life has changed drastically in the past year. I mean last september, I was sitting in chemistry class talking about auditioning for a musical in Nashville. Last July, I was at kamp for the 8th year, joking about how I wouldn't be back this year because I'd be on tour. Little did I know that it would actually happen.

I always loved American Idol. I've been a die hard fan since the first season, and I always said that I would love to audition for it. I had no idea they would have 6 seasons, and that when that time came, I would be old enough to audition.

When I got myself into this, I never expected to get out of it what I did. I did the competition, made friends for life, found out that I was stronger than I thought I was, and finished the season on top. It is still hard for me to comprehend. I still find it weird that I am in the same ring with Kelly, Carrie, Fantasia, Ruben and Taylor. SO weird. Who would have thought?!

But I did it.

And now, the tour is ending. Tomorrow is the last show. I don't know what Im going to do with myself! I mean, we're excited to go our separate ways and start our own careers of course. But at the same time, we're all we've known for the past year. These precious people, who I have grown to love, from different states, walks of life, are now departing. It's SO sad. I've seen them everyday, all day, for this past year, and now it won't be that way. I can't imagine not seeing Sanjaya wake up 4 minutes before we're supposed to go or being there for me. I can't picture not being with Melinda, 15 minutes early to everything, or running to her right when I need her. I can't picture CRich without his stupid blue phone, singing me a new song hes written or making me laugh for absolutely no reason. Gina's honesty, trustworthiness and alwyas being there for me. Haley's baby voice and kind heart. ChrisS dang sense of humor. Phil's sarcasm and his love for amazing wife and kids. KiKi's 'baby makin hips' dance and her love for her daughter. Blake's constant noise making & improv. Laughing, crying, talking, playing, annoying, sleeping, eating, dancing, singing, performing, being with them everyday. :]

These people have become family to me, and I love them, and I'm sure as heck gonna miss them. But I'll be okay....we'll all be okay.

Ahh...memories. :D

One other thing before I head off to sleep....

I just wanted to tell all of you how life changing seeing all of you has been. Meeting people ranging from 4 to 50+, and them telling me that they look up to me...makes me so happy. I actually feel like crying. Hearing people say that my music makes them feel better or makes them happy, words can't even express how much that means to me.Getting to see all of you, you who put me here, and saying thank you, has been a huge blessing to me. So, thank you for voting your fingers off. For Letting your kids stay up a little late to watch the show. For coming to the concerts and showing us your love. You all support me so much and Ill never forget it.

I love you guys.

Blog EntryBlake and Jordin Shops Together Jun 22, '07 11:41 PM
by Pink for everyone

They've denied up and down that they're an item, but Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis have been looking awfully co-co-co-zy in the afterglow of their "American Idol" glory.

A TMZ spy spotted the "Idol" finalists "holding hands" while shopping at a Fry's Electronics store near L.A. We're told that they wandered around the store, unmolested, and seemed "happy" together. Blake was overheard saying to the 17-year-old Jordin, "We should call your mom." Need a ride, kids?

Here, B & J yuk it up for photogs, as Blake rocks an outfit that seamlessly blends New Kids on The Block and low-rent surf dude chic.

The pair will tour with the rest of the "Idol" crew this summer, but it looks like they've got their own duet.
